Update on Pinewoods’ current thinking about the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

March 9, 2020

Dear Friends,

Each spring our excitement about the upcoming camp season ramps up with each day of warm weather. This year is different. With the coronavirus on everyone’s mind, I wanted to let you know what steps we are taking to prepare for your arrival. Your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us.

First, for the most accurate and up-to-date information, we are relying on only official sources. I stay informed with updates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the MA Department of Health as well as the local officials in the town of Plymouth. We will default to any suggestions or mandates they make regarding travel or closing.  In addition, we are listening to the professional guidance offered by the American Camp Association, who have a long history of dealing with these kinds of events. Good information allows us to make good decisions.

Second, internally, the Executive Committee of the board is in regular contact and we have a full board meeting on April 4th.  I am in contact with all the program providers, many who have put out their own plans on their websites and we will work together, as we always do, to respond appropriately.

In addition, we are reviewing all of our camp protocols and this includes considering new basic hygiene procedures for staff and campers; adding additional hand washing sinks; and adding up-to-date training and orientation for our staff.

We know that this is a rapidly evolving situation and it is understandable to have concerns and questions. We will continue to keep you updated as important new information comes to our attention in the coming weeks and months prior to camp. The amazing thing about Pinewoods Camp has always been the strength and kindness of the Pinewoods’ community. Let’s work together to face this challenge.

Regards,

Carl

Carl Mastandrea, Executive Director
