Pinewoods Scholarship Info
Scholarship Information
Pinewoods Camp supports diversity in the folk arts community by offering scholarships at each session held at Pinewoods. These scholarships are fiscally matched and administered by our Program Providers, who organize and run sessions at Pinewoods each year. During the camp season, Pinewoods will be offering several scholarship programs, including:
New Generation Initiative (NGI) Scholarships
NGI scholarships are intended for campers between the ages of 15 and 30 who are new to Pinewoods Camp and are interested in leadership roles in traditional music, dance and song. Recipients receive a full scholarship for one session.
If selected as an NGI recipient, you:
- are encouraged to have a Sponsor (referral). These individuals help with the registration process, answer questions before camp, and help identify applicants
- will be assigned a Mentor at camp to introduce you to the programs, community, and camp life
- will be expected to participate fully in classes and activities
- will have the opportunity to connect with the Pinewoods Executive Director and/or program organizers during the camp session
- will be encouraged to provide stories, photos, and feedback from your time and experience at camp
Need-based Scholarships
Need-based Scholarships are intended for any age camper who demonstrates need for financial assistance to attend camp. Preference may be given to those who are new to camp.
If selected as a Pinewoods Need-based scholarship recipient, you:
- may be asked to supply a statement confirming financial need
- may be assigned a Mentor at camp, particularly if you are new to Pinewoods, to introduce you to the programs, community, and camp life
- will be encouraged to provide stories, photos, and feedback from your time and experience at camp
Program Providers may combine Need-based scholarships with other funding sources, including work exchange, to offer full or half scholarships for each of their sessions.
BIPOC Scholarships
Pinewoods Camp, Inc supports and welcomes racial diversity among our campers and promotes inclusion.
BIPOC Scholarships are intended for any age camper who identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color. Recipients may be experienced or new to our music and dance traditions; preference may be given to those who are new to camp.
If selected as a BIPOC Scholarship recipient, you:
- may be assigned a Mentor at camp, particularly if you are new to Pinewoods, to introduce you to the programs, community, and camp life
- will be encouraged to provide stories, photos, and feedback from your time and experience at camp
