Our Environment

The PCI environmental committee has a mission to protect the environment at Pinewoods and in the Long Pond area. It works to make campers aware of these issues and ways in which they can participate. Following is a list of links to groups that have information about environmental issues directly affecting Long Pond, protected lands nearby where people can enjoy nature and ways of living that can help preserve the environment in general.

The Six Ponds Improvement Association
The Six Ponds Improvement Association is the most active local group advocating for environmental issues related to Long Pond, Makepeace etc. Their site has many links to other good sites.
  The Wildlands Trust
The Wildlands Trust manages many acres of conservation land adjacent to Pinewoods. They are active in negotiations related to the future of the 10,000 acre Makepeace property.
The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy holds a number of properties in the Plymouth area including Halfway Pond Island.
  The Coalition for Buzzards Bay
The Coalition for Buzzards Bay's site contains good information for education programs and links to area land trusts and similar orgs.
Myles Standish State Park
Myles Standish State Park is nearby and has a number of hiking trails. Their site contains a useful trail map.
  Inside Cape Cod
Inside Cape Cod has an extensive list of hiking and biking trails.
